Emergency Preparedness Supplies For Survival Situations

Disasters may happen anywhere and anytime. In the majority of cases they are caused by weather conditions. In some cases you will have to evacuate and leave your house. However, in most cases you will be able to stay at home. Try to imagine what your life will be like if you are stuck in your house without any social services. Do you have an emergency plan for such situations? Do you even have enough supplies to survive a long term emergency?

People need food to survive. That is why food storage is the top thing in any type of emergency plan. Having a few weeks supply of food at your home is a must. This will greatly increase your chances to survive an emergency situation. Some people stockpile military foods and backpacking supplies for emergency purposes. However, this is not needed. Most survivalists recommend to store foods that you eat regularly in your day to day life. This will allow you to eat normal and favorite meals during an emergency. Plus you will not have to worry about expiration dates and food spoilage.

Having enough drinking water is even more important as we are not able to live as long without water as we could without food products. It is highly recommended to have some king of water purifier or filter at your house. You could use them on regular basis or just get a small and portable water filter for emergency purposes only. A good idea is to keep some bottles of drinking water in your freezer and refrigerator. This will allow you to keep the cold inside them if a power outage occurs.

The general rule is to store one gallon of water per day for each adult in your house. However, you could store even more water for proper sanitation and personal hygiene.

One more thing to have for emergency purposes is medication. It is not required to be a doctor to use basic medical supplies. Make sure you have medications that reduce pain plus the ones that fight infection. You might not be able to do much about broken bones or major cuts, but you need to be able to reduce the pain and to stop bleeding until you get to a doctor. Some of your family members might be taking medications on regular basis. Do not forget to include them into your emergency kit as well. It is always a good idea to have first aid kits in your car, at home and at your office.

Aside from getting certain items for emergency situations you need to develop an emergency plan as well. This plan should be discussed with your family members. Make sure everyone at your house knows what should be done in a disaster.

Do you know that food storage can save you from lots of problems during all sorts of emergency issues. Learn more about food storage on this food storage web site.
